Local charities benefit from students jumping off College roof
Thursday, December 20th, 2001
Following a charity abseil and various fundraising events that took place in 2001, £2371.56 was recently handed over by the Students’ Union of Reading College to charities: Gingerbread, Cirdic and the Sean Devereux Children’s Fund.
A charity fundraising day was held in March 2001, with a variety of money raising activities taking place. This included abseiling, performances by music technology students, biscuit sale, raffles, bring & buy sale, and two music technology students – Natalie Mann and Rebecca Mudge dressing up as schoolgirls and touring the College shaking a bucket raising £268.
The majority of the funds raised (£1100) were from the abseiling event, where around 60 students and staff abseiled down the front of the Kings Road campus building. A particular mention should be given to Damien Cornwall, (who is on the Adult Skills programme at the college) who raised an amazing £265 single-handedly.
