Letter of Appreciation from Bombo-Wura Aduna dated May 2008

Dear Sir

The Chief, Elders, Women, Young Men and Children of Bombo Township and its surrounding villages wishes to convey their profound gratitude to the Management and staff of Sean Devereux Children’s Fund for kindly funding the drilling of a Borehole fitted a hand pump to provide clean, fresh and portable drinking water for them.

The Women and Children are most grateful for the facility because they are normally most hard hit by the acute water shortages in the community. In the dry season any time there is acute water shortage they travel long distances with all sorts of containers on their heads to find water for their domestic chores.

We also want to specially thank the coordinator ie the link between the village Chief and the FUND, Mr Gregory John Harding for effectively coordinating and monitoring the project implementation throughout the period. He has done so well. Very instrumental and inspirational from beginning to the end. We are very grateful to his entire family for their wonderful support behind the scenes.

We were however a little bit disappointed with the contractor who delayed in executing the project but in the end he did a good job. This particular well is the best in the area. It produces/delivers 96 litres of water/minute. That is fantastic. According to the Bombo residents the water tastes better than the one sponsored by the West Gonja District Assembly. Accompanying this letter are pictures of the project indicating the operations before, during and after. (These can now be seen on the SDCF Flickr Site)

The old pump delivers very clean, crystal clear water, it however delivers less water per minute, and its water is not as tasty as that of the new one. On the other hand the new pump delivers more water per minute with better taste but not as clear and clean as the old one. The contractor explained that with time it will filter off to be as clean as that of the old one.

By a copy of this letter I am informing the West Gonja District Assembly that Sean Devereux Children’s Fund, a Charity Organisation based in the UK, has graciously and kindly responded to our appeal and funded a second borehole for the people of Bombo.

Once more we wish to thank the FUND for her humanitarian gesture. Long live Sean Devereux Children’s Fund. The Chief and people of Bombo are forever grateful because there is now abundant clean drinking water flowing throughout the day. They now have more time for their farming and other economic activities to give more meaning to their lives.

Bombo-Wura Aduna 1

(Chief of Bombo)

For and on behalf of the people
