“Mr” Sean Devereux

(Known by the children as ‘Mr Sean’; published by David Hodges from his book “Songs from Solitude”)

Sean had a mission
He died for truth,
For speaking out the truth
Often at the point of a gun,
Helping to get the food through,
Among “his children”
In the Africa that he loved.

Spoke out against the arms trade
Who supplied the guns,
Then apologised and gave them food
While they shot each other for it
Who did the killing? You and me

He walked in the Truth
“While my heart beats
I have to …help…”
While there is life there is hope.

Jesus spoke up for the truth:
“I am the Way, the Truth and the Life”
He said “I was born for this
To bear witness to the truth
And all who are on the side of truth
Listen to my voice”.

“Truth”, Pilate said, “what is that?”
And had him scourged and crucified

But His Truth lives on
In “the Spirit of Truth
Sent in Jesus’ name”,
And “the Truth will set you free”
And the kingdom of Truth will grow and spread
With every man who truly lives it,
Who dares to walk in the truth and in the light.
