A huge thank you to everyone who braved a chilly Spring day to complete the WFS last Sunday ( 5th). At the time of writing this important fundraiser has raised £3333 and we are confident of more sponsorship/donations to come.
Once again it was a great family day as 100 people (plus almost as many dogs) walked a 5km route that started at the Sean Devereux 6th Form Centre.
It was lovely and fitting that Brother Michael Delmer, Sean’s headteacher and biographer, filed the “starting pistol” for the walk that marked the 30th Anniversary of Sean’s death. We were also really pleased that Maureen, Theresa and Rosie could join us on the day.
Obviously we have a lot of thanks:
To those who undertook the “30 for 30” challenge
To our patron, Raquel Cassidy, who walked the walk on the day
To the school team, including the young team of marshalls who gave us access to the buildings and kept us safe on the day
To the Salesian PTA who gave up their Sunday afternoon to provide refreshments
To Laura Chatterton for her photos
To all walkers, sponsors, donors and other volunteers.
As a rough guide, £3333 can help to give a tear’s education to more than 30 children in Liberia.
What an achievement and one that really honours Sean’s legacy!
We would like to than Redbrain for a very generous corporate donation following the recent Quiz Night.

We have just published our latest newsletter and you can access it here
Please feel free to pass it onto friends and, if you would like it to appear in your inbox, please email us via the website and we will add you to the list.
The newsletter went to press as our 2023 Quiz took place, so a little late to post a photo of the winning team……here it is!
We would like to thank the 320+ supporters that took part in the fantastic Quiz Night at Salesian on the 4th February.
As anyone who has attended knows, these are always great fun, very competitive and very social!
Our thanks to Salesian College and, in particular their PTA and our very own Theresa Chatterton, without whom it would not happen. Once again the Class of ‘82 won the trophy, although, like Manchester City in the Premier League, various inquiries are now under way!!!
Thank you all once again, a stunning fund-raising effort and we hope to see as many of you as we can at the Walk For Sean on the 5th March.
Today marks the 30th anniversary of Sean’s murder in Somalia in 1993.
During the year we will mark the 30th anniversary with all sorts of commemorative events and activities but, on this specific day, we remember Sean’s family and send them all our best wishes.
We also thank every single person who has helped and contributed during these 30 years in maintaining Sean’s legacy.
We all know that money is tight and donations to charity can suffer at such times. We remain hugely grateful to all our supporters who give whatever they can when they can!
One easy and painless way to help us is to sign up to EasyFundraising. It is as simple as opening an account and then, as you do your online shopping with hundreds of retailers your chosen charity benefits.
As Christmas approaches and we all purchase the odd gift or look for ever scarcer turkeys, every purchase you make can help SDCF, as shown by our latest contribution from recent activity
After the 1500 km trip from Accra to Monrovia , our team in Liberia have now started to distribute the solar lanterns to the first student beneficiaries. Such a basic thing, the provision of light in a house, can only assist further in helping our Liberian friends shape their positive future.
We previously reported that we were purchasing 200 lanterns to help our children’s education in Liberia and we are delighted to tell you that they are now in Liberia.
Packed and ready to go in Accra.
The lanterns have had a 1500 km road journey and have arrived in Liberia today (15/11) and it was all hands on deck to pick them up at the warehouse.
They will be very soon illuminating the lives of young children and their families in Monrovia.
The Sean Devereux Children’s Fund is delighted to announce that, through the kind support of the Derek Moore Foundation, we are about to transform the lives of many students and their families by providing Solar Lanterns.
For many years we have wanted to provide solar lanterns to some of our students in Liberia, a country where continuous and reliable power cannot be taken for granted. The objective being 2 fold:
To allow students to be able to read and study at home when they would not otherwise do so
To increase the safety and security of our families, particularly young girls
Now, thanks to the external financial support of the Derek Moore Foundation, we are committed to the supply of 200 solar lanterns to students at our Brewerville school and other VOS schools in the Monrovia area. The lanterns are robust and proven in similar environments and, with the management of our local colleagues, we anticipate the lanterns benefiting hundreds of families over the next few years.
We will bring you some news and photos as soon as they arrive in Liberia!
The Derek Moore Foundation was founded by Derek “to promote sustainable economic growth and empowerment in socially and economically disadvantaged communities”.
Please do take a look at the website where you can see the many similar projects supported by the Foundation.
We express our gratitude for their support in enabling this project that has been on our wish list for some time.
